Jon Dalton George
For Boone Mayor

Three first names, but you can call me Dalton

Those fancy political websites will usually have some third-person description of the candidate, but instead, this biography is straight from the source. Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share that I’m running to be Boone’s next Mayor. I’ve served on the Boone Town Council for over four years and secured policy wins that benefit everyone here. When I first took office, I was the youngest elected official in our Town’s history, and now I’m aiming to be our youngest Mayor.

But age was never a limiting factor. I led on issues for tenants, focused on solid, pragmatic policy, and now hold the distinction of being the Councilmember who’s successfully introduced the most items (see “My Record”).

I love this place and love sharing it with each of you, and I’m confident that my record makes me well-suited to serve.

Why Now?

Politics is dysfunctional, and I’m often frustrated with our political process in Raleigh and D.C. I understand why people are cynical [checking out] and why, more than ever before, there’s a real distrust of public service.

After some reflection, I’ve come to realize that this is the moment for local leaders to meet that challenge, build community in their hometowns, and solve issues alongside their Town’s residents. That’s the way forward. And if we can pull it off in small towns like Boone, maybe it’ll have an impact on our State and Nation’s capitols.

We’ve got challenges ahead: dealing with the housing crisis, advocating for renters, balancing our town’s growth, fighting for the working people who make our local economy possible, and addressing ongoing infrastructure improvements and needs. It’s a long laundry list, but it can be solved.

I know, as Mayor, I can begin that process.
